Hypnosis for PTSD
Gentle support for calming the nervous system, restoring inner safety, and helping the mind stop living as if the danger is still happening.
Trauma can leave the body and mind on alert long after the original experience has passed. For some people, that may look like anxiety, flashbacks, nightmares, emotional numbness, irritability, avoidance, or the constant feeling of being “on guard.”
PTSD is not simply a memory problem. It is often a nervous system pattern — a learned state of protection that can continue even when life is safer now.
Hypnotherapy offers a calm, structured, and supportive way to work with the subconscious patterns connected to trauma. In a deeply relaxed state, the mind may become more receptive to new associations, emotional regulation, and a renewed sense of internal safety.
This work is not about forcing someone to relive painful memories. It is about helping the mind and body begin to respond differently — gently, respectfully, and at a pace that feels safe.
How Hypnotherapy May Help with PTSD Symptoms
Trauma-informed hypnotherapy can support the areas where trauma often leaves the deepest imprint:
Calming Hypervigilance and Anxiety
When the nervous system has learned to stay on high alert, it can feel difficult to relax, sleep, focus, or feel present. Hypnotherapy can help guide the body into a state of calm while reinforcing a sense of safety and control.
Reducing Intrusive Thoughts and Emotional Triggers
Certain memories, sounds, places, or situations may activate distress before the conscious mind has time to respond. Hypnosis can help create space between the trigger and the reaction, allowing the mind to develop new patterns of response.
Supporting Sleep and Rest
Many people with trauma symptoms struggle with insomnia, nightmares, or restless sleep. Hypnotherapy can help quiet the mind, ease physical tension, and create bedtime associations that feel safer and more restorative.
Strengthening Emotional Regulation
Trauma can make emotions feel sudden, overwhelming, or difficult to contain. Hypnotic work can support the ability to pause, breathe, ground, and respond from the present moment rather than from the old survival state.
Rebuilding a Sense of Inner Safety
One of the most important parts of trauma recovery is helping the person feel safe within themselves again. Hypnotherapy can gently support that process by strengthening calm, self-trust, and the ability to return to the present.
A Gentle, Respectful Approach
Every person’s experience with trauma is different. Some people remember everything clearly. Others feel the effects in their body, sleep, relationships, or emotional reactions without wanting to revisit the details.
In our work together, you do not have to share more than you are ready to share.
Sessions are designed to be calm, respectful, and paced carefully. The goal is not to push, flood, or overwhelm. The goal is to help your system begin to recognize that it has options now — that the present moment can become safer, steadier, and more manageable.
Hypnotherapy as Complementary Support
Hypnotherapy is not a replacement for medical care, crisis care, or trauma therapy with a licensed mental health provider. For many people, however, it can be a valuable complementary support alongside therapy, EMDR, somatic work, medical care, or other forms of treatment.
Research and clinical discussion continue to explore hypnosis as an adjunctive approach for trauma-related symptoms, especially because hypnosis can help with relaxation, emotional regulation, sleep, and the subconscious associations connected to traumatic stress. Current PTSD guidelines continue to emphasize evidence-based trauma treatments, so the most responsible positioning is to present hypnotherapy as supportive, complementary care rather than a stand-alone cure.

What a Session May Feel Like
A trauma-informed hypnotherapy session is calm, private, and guided.
You may be invited to relax your body, slow your breathing, focus your attention, and enter a comfortable hypnotic state. From there, we may work with imagery, grounding, subconscious suggestion, emotional release, or inner safety-building.
You remain in control.
You do not have to reveal every detail.
You do not have to force yourself into anything painful.
The work meets you where you are.

🙋♀️ PTSD FAQ
Gentle answers to help you feel informed, safe, and supported.
Is hypnosis safe for trauma recovery? Yes. Hypnotherapy can be a powerful support tool for trauma survivors—especially when it’s done with a trauma-informed approach. You are never forced to relive the trauma. We focus on calming the nervous system, rewiring emotional triggers, and helping your subconscious feel safe again. Can this help with PTSD from emotional or relationship trauma? Absolutely. Many of my clients are recovering from narcissistic abuse, emotional manipulation, betrayal, or prolonged toxic dynamics. These experiences leave invisible wounds, often dismissed or misunderstood. Hypnotherapy allows us to gently rebuild your sense of self, safety, and sovereignty. Will I lose control during hypnosis? Not at all. You stay aware and in control the whole time. You can speak, pause, or shift directions whenever you need. You’ll be guided—not pushed. How many sessions do I need? That depends on your goals and the depth of trauma. Some people feel relief after just a few sessions, while others may benefit from ongoing support. I’ll help you create a clear, realistic plan during our consultation. Is it normal to feel nervous about starting? Completely. Many clients feel nervous about letting someone into their inner world—especially after trust has been broken in the past. I honor that, and we’ll move at the pace that feels safe and respectful for you. What if I already have a therapist? Wonderful. Hypnotherapy pairs beautifully with talk therapy. If desired, I’m happy to collaborate (with your consent) to ensure your healing is supported from every angle.
